THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: This year's Onam fairs will be formally inaugurated on August 21 at Chinnakkada in Kollam district, according to an official spokesman. The fairs will be open till August 27.

This was decided at high-level meeting of officials convened here on Tuesday by the Minister for Cooperation, Mr M.V. Raghavan, and the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Mr G. Karthikeyan.

Last year, there were 1,464 Onam fairs operating in different parts of the State during the festival season, which had generated a business of Rs 9.37 crore, the spokesman added.
