Bandh has little impact on Kolkata port work

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Aug. 2

THE 12-hour strike called by the All India Nationalist Trinamul Congress in West Bengal did not have much of an impact on port operations in Haldia.

According to the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) sources, attendance in Haldia dock system was `normal.' Loading and unloading operations were carried out on eight ships. A total of 10 ships arrived and left the port during the day.

Though the attendance of clerical staff was "poor" in the Kolkata dock system, the core port operations were carried out smoothly at both Kidderpore and Netaji Subhas dock because of normal turnout of officers and cargo handling workers.

Loading and unloading operations were carried out on one ship each in Kidderpore and Netaji Subhas dock in Kolkata. At the dry dock, repairing jobs went on smoothly on three vessels. Two ships sailed out of Kolkata and one arrived.
