Perilous ride

A middle-aged couple on a scooter passes the hoarding of a leading two-wheeler company in Kochi city. With the surge in two-wheeler sales in the State, accidents involving two-wheelers have registered a steep rise. One third of the 39,496 accidents reported in the State last year involved two-wheelers. A study conducted by the States Crime Records Bureau last year showed that rural areas in Thrissur and Ernakulam districts had the highest number of road mishaps. Most of the accidents occur between 5 and 6 pm.
