UB seeks adjournment in Herbertsons case

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Aug 4

THE UB group has sought an adjournment of the hearing on Herbertsons' case that was scheduled to resume before the Supreme Court on August 6. UB and its Chairman, Mr Vijay Mallya, battling with Mr Kishore Chhabria for control over Herbertsons Ltd, the country's third largest spirits company, will push for a mid-September date for resumption of the proceedings.

Mr P.H. Parikh, a counsel representing the Mallya camp, informed the Registrar of the Supreme Court through a letter dated August 3 about the adjournment move. It comes in the wake of renewed efforts between the two camps to reach an amicable settlement in the vexed legal battle that is almost a decade old.

Mr Mallya and Mr Chhabria met in Mumbai after a long hiatus on July 27 in connection with Herbertsons board meeting, and is likely to have more interactions once the former returns from abroad on August 8, informed sources said.
