MP visits Anantapur farmer who survived suicide bid

Visakhapatnam , Aug 4

A NEWLY-MARRIED farmer of Anantapur, who made an unsuccessful bid to commit suicide at Araku and is now being treated at the King George Hospital here, was visited by Bhadrachalam MP, Mr M. Babu Rao, on Wednesday. Mr Rao consoled the farmer and gave him words of reassurance.

Like so many other farmers in the State, Mr K. Nagabhushana Reddy of Bhocherla village in Ruddam mandal of Anantapur district was caught in a debt trap. He visited the picturesque Araku valley in Visakhapatnam district several weeks ago along with his bride, Siddilingamma, on the pretext of honeymoon and there he sought to end his life. He jumped before a running train near Araku but was saved by some workers of the CPI (M) party.

He lost his right hand and was brought to the KGH for treatment. The CPI (M) city secretary, Mr Lokanadham, and the secretary of the Visakha City Citizens' Welfare Union, Mr A. Suresh, said that Mr Reddy had been undergoing treatment at the KGH for more than 45 days. Though the hospital authorities were looking after him well, no official from the Revenue department had responded to his request for help.

Dr Babu Rao told the farmer that suicide was not the solution and assured him that he would ask the District Collector to provide him help.
