Strategy Corporate - New Projects Ozone Ayurvedics plans facility in Britain May customise products under `Nomarks' brand Sindhu J. Bhattacharya
New Delhi , Aug 5 OZONE Ayurvedics plans to invest up to Rs 12 crore in setting up a manufacturing facility in Britain to cater to the European markets. On the anvil are products specially customised to suit European skins, including an anti-freckle cream, ear drops and after-shave antiseptic creams under the `Nomarks' brand name. "The Nomarks portfolio has been growing consistently, not only in India but also in overseas markets through exports. We have decided to set up a manufacturing facility in Britain to be able to better service the European markets and avail of the quality certification production in Britain will entitle us to," the Managing Director, Mr S.C. Sehgal, told Business Line. He said a separate company, called Ozone UK Ltd, has been incorporated for ramping up operations in Britain. While some of the existing products under the `Nomarks' portfolio will be taken in semi-finished form to the new facility, the new ones will be manufactured from scratch in the British plant. "The plant will have an installed capacity of 500 kg per batch. Besides the Nomarks portfolio present in India, it will also be used to make special products needed by the Europeans such as anti-freckle cream, ear drops and shaving antiseptics," he said. Again, taking into consideration the tendency of Europeans to buy larger pack sizes, Ozone will develop the 100 gm pack size specifically for this market. Mr Sehgal said the product will be premium priced at around eight pounds per 100 gm pack. On the company's plans in India, he said product extensions of Nomarks had already been completed with the launch of an elbow cream and a scrub soap. "Having completed brand extensions, we have decided to strengthen our distribution network within the domestic market. From being present only in big cities and metros, we will move on to the rural and semi-urban market this year. This will be done by augmenting our dealer network by 500 to 1,500," Mr Sehgal added. The company is eyeing Rs 50-crore sales turnover this fiscal against Rs 30 crore it posted in 2003-04.
