New Delhi , Aug. 5 RESUMPTION of normal train services on Northern Railway is expected only by August 13 as Railways step up efforts to restore tracks and equipment damaged at several places on the network by heavy rains this week. While Delhi-Ambala-Chandigarh-Kalka section is expected to be restored by Saturday, Jammu and Amritsar are likely to stay cut off till August 13, a senior Railway official told Business Line. The Northern Railway General Manager, Mr R.R. Jharuhar, inspected the damage near Chandigarh on Thursday and pegged the loss to Railway property due to floods at about Rs 9 crore. In addition, the Railways have suffered loss of business, he said. The Ambala-Ludhiana double line section had been damaged at seven places over nearly 18 km due to heavy flow of water in river Ghaggar and seasonal rivers running along the line. Three bridges had been damaged by the gushing waters, the official said. The Railways had pressed nearly 50 engineers and 1,500 personnel to restore the tracks and senior officials were monitoring the situation round the clock, the official added.
