Cable & Wireless mulls setting up call centres

Moumita Bakshi

New Delhi , Aug. 6

THE UK-based telecom company Cable & Wireless is considering investing in call centre business in India with a view to offering end-to-end services to its global clients.

"We are looking at potentially investing in call centre business in India," Mr Phil Green, CEO (Japan/Asia), Cable & Wireless, told Business Line.

He said that the company was already providing telecom infrastructure to run call centres. "We provide hardware, international links, switching, and expertise in constructing high quality call centres but we do not run call centre outsourcing business. We are now looking at our own call centre operations," he said.

He said the company would weigh both organic and inorganic options for the call centre business but declined to comment on the investment for the proposed project.

Mr Sunanda Das, Country Manager (India) of Cable & Wireless, said, "there are big service organisations in the US and the UK which have a large amount of customer interaction. We can provide these customers with integrated turnkey solutions. The call centre could essentially handle voice and transaction processing activities." He said that the call centre could address the company's internal and customer requirements.

In India, Cable & Wireless offers managed network services to global clients from the Bangalore centre and provides services in the domestic market.
