Karnataka bus owners' strike tomorrow

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Karnataka State Bus Owners' Federation will hold a token bus strike on August 10 to highlight the problems faced by the bus transport industry in the State.

A press release by the President of the federation, Mr K. Rajavarma Ballal, said here on Saturday that the steep increase in diesel prices and the reluctance of the authorities to permit hike in bus fares has affected the industry.

Seeking uniform fare structure in the State, Mr Ballal said that the private bus transport industry should be provided a level-playing field with the State Road Transport Corporation. The federation demanded that the Government fix the fare structure instead of road transport authorities. Though bus owners pay very high road tax and development cess, the condition of the road is not good, he added.
