Pune , Aug. 9 THE Venkateshwara Hatcheries group is setting up a green field grandparent bird-breeding farm in West Bengal. The project, being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore, will help the group tap the huge existing demand for breed stock in Bangladesh, Ms Anuradha Desai, the group Chairperson, told Business Line on Monday. The group will set up base at a 40-acre plot of land and kick off business with a basket of incentives offered by the West Bengal Government. The group was also in the process of setting up a 5,000 tonne per annum feed mill and a hatchery to cater to the demand in the State, Ms Desai said. She said work on the breeding farm, which will supply the Bangladesh market with `VenCobb pureline' grandparent birds, will start in three months The Bangladesh market for feedstock is currently estimated at 15 lakh birds, of which Venkateshwara is supplying 3-4 lakh birds. "Once the farm is operational, we will eventually be able to supply at least a million parent birds annually,'' Ms Desai said.
