Human Resources Government - Politics Industry & Economy - Industry Associations Assocham against job quota in private sector Our Bureau
Kochi , Aug. 9 THE Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has protested the move to introduce a legislation for job reservation in the private sector, saying that it will have adverse impact on the industry. The job reservation will have negative impact as it affects the meritocracy of the private sector and its capability, Mr Anil Agarwal, Alternate President of Assocham, said here while addressing the 147th annual general meeting of the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Instead of competency, proficiency and merit of candidates for jobs, the employment will be based on caste, creed or colour if legislation comes in this direction. In this era of globalisation, if legislation becomes mandatory for global companies, many would leave the country. Speaking on the occasion, the State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Public Relations, Mr M.M. Hassan, called upon the Indian industry to make use of the investment opportunities created by the post-WTO commercial scenario especially in the context of Kerala having excellent potential for developing ethnic products emerging from the traditional sector. He pointed out that there is an excellent opportunity for Kerala to produce eco-friendly products such as fruits, vegetables, spices and coffee. The Minister reminded that the world is changing and Kerala has no other way but to move along with the time.
