Nabard staff on warpath

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Employees of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) have launched a countrywide agitation against what they described as attempts to disturb parity with counterparts in the Reserve Bank with regard to pay structure, superannuation benefit and other service conditions.

According to Mr Jose T. Abraham and Mr N. Balakrishnan, union leaders, employees have massed under the banners of the National Bank Officers' Association (NOA) and the All-India Nabard Employees Association (AINBEA) and made representations to the Managing Director, Nabard, as well as to regional offices during the last week.

Pay scales and service conditions, including pension, have been on a par with the Reserve Bank employees right from 1982, the year of Nabard's inception. This is sought to being undone by the management, they added. Both NOA and AINBEA have decided to support the countrywide strike by bank employees on August 24 as well.
