TAMIL Nadu has offered 15 acres to Chennai-based Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) on the Old Mahabalipuram Road for its campus, according to Dr Bala V. Balachandran, J. L. Kellogg Distinguished Professor of Accounting Information and Management, Director of the Accounting Research Center and Dean, GLIM.
The official handover of the land is yet to happen, said Mr S. Sriram, Executive Director, GLIM. The institute will pay a nominal rate for the land.
Dr Balachandran said in case this does not work out, the second option would be the East Coast Road. The investment into this project will be between Rs 15 crore and Rs 20 crore, and will take two years to complete. GLIM, in association with the Stuart Graduate School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology, offers five segments - manufacturing management, financial services, nanotechnology, family business and healthcare.
About 50 per cent of the faculty will be international, while the rest will be drawn from the industry and Government.
GLIM conducts its own admission tests and accepts GMAT and CAT scores.
Dr Balachandran said that the 12-month course costs about Rs 2.97 lakh, but differs from other courses conducted in the US and India. Around 120 students have been selected this year.
One difference is that the course offers a Chinese language option. Also, the course is for 49 weeks with no breaks which helps the student finish faster.
