New Delhi , Aug. 9

IN a bid to expedite civil and corporate justice to pending disputes, the Government has decided to set up a number of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) courts with modern facilities incorporated into it, the Minister of Law and Justice, Mr H.R. Bhardwaj, said on Monday.

Addressing a seminar organised by the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) along with the Indo-German and Indo-American Chambers of Commerce, Mr Bhardwaj said that the UPA Government was committed to introducing reforms to the Indian judicial system.

Responding to a suggestion mooted by the Assocham President, Mr Mahendra K. Sanghi, for putting up effective ADRs, Mr Bhardwaj announced that the Finance Commission has already earmarked Rs 10 crore for the establishment of such dispute resolutions to dispense with the corporate and civil disputes.

The proposed ADRs will comprise retired judges, eminent personalities and technocrats from India and abroad.

The Government is already in talks with some of the eminent lawyers and judges from the UK, the US, France and other European countries, the Minister said.
