Kerala Chamber's plea on projects
Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Chamber of Commerce, Thiruvananthapuram, has expressed concern over the fate of the proposed satellite railway station at Kochuveli in the suburbs as also that of the Vizhinjam transhipment port.
According to Mr P. Ganesh, Honorary Secretary of the Chamber, the whims of a handful of loading/ unloading workers at Kochuveli had threatened to derail the prospects for the new facility. When last heard, nearby Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu was preparing to stake a claim for the project. In the case of the proposed container port, too, Colachel in Tamil Nadu is close to piping Vizhinjam to it.
More or less was the case with development works at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, with Nagercoil, just across the border, offering 1,500 acres of land for a new airport. Mr Ganesh called for immediate action from the State Government to save these projects.
