Kerala steps to clear files by year-end

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Local Administration Department is moving in the direction of clearing by the year-end all pending files in its various offices. Announcing this here, an official spokesman said that, `file adalat' was held here on Tuesday as a first step in this direction.

It is estimated that 10,200 files are pending in various offices under the Department. This includes 2,500 files that have been pending decision for up to two years and 1,600 beyond this.

This was attributed to the fact that, compared with others, the Local Administration Department concerns itself with local bodies and planning and development authorities and performed relatively more number of functions. An estimated 4,000-odd files reached the Local Administration Secretariat every month and even a slight delay in taking timely decision would lead to piling up of files.
