Hyderabad , Aug. 11 A FIRE destroyed portions of the Wet Chemical Laboratory of the research and development (R&D) Centre of Gulf Oil Corporation Ltd in Kukatpally here on Wednesday afternoon. Nobody was injured since the accident occurred during lunchtime around 1 p.m. and no one was present in the laboratory. The R&D building is located in the non-explosive area of the Hyderabad Works of the company. The Wet Chemical Laboratory was gutted, including the chemicals and furniture. The Lab, covering approximately 4,000 sq.ft., on the first floor of the R&D buildings was approved by the Government Authorities, a company release said. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and the company has launched an investigation. Fire tenders from the Fire Services Department and the company's own safety department brought the fire under control in about an hour. Incidentally a huge blast had caused severe damage to the factory in November last year, killing seven people and injuring some others. The factory was re-opened early this year after getting required clearances. Mr P. Janardhan Reddy, senior Congress Party leader, and the District Collector of Ranga Reddy district visited the accident site. Mr Reddy alleged that a fire engine, required to be maintained at the factory site, was missing.
