Sanofi announces open offer for Aventis

THE France-based drug company Sanofi-Synthelabo is making an open offer for up to 20 per cent of Aventis Pharma Ltd India at Rs 792.2 per share, DSP Merrill Lynch, the manager to the offer told BSE on Wednesday.

This follows Sanofi's recent global takeover of Aventis to form the world's third-largest drug company. The offer is for acquiring up to 4,606,125 fully paid-up equity shares of Rs 10 each.

Aventis S.A. holds 50.1 per cent equity in the Indian subsidiary. Also, Aventis Pharma has two manufacturing units, at Goa and Ankleshwar and has about 1,284 people working in the company.

The offer would open on October 7 and close on November 5.
