Mangalore , Aug. 12

THE Karnataka Minister for Public Works and Energy, Mr H.D. Revanna, has said that the Union Government has been requested to repair National Highways in Dakshina Kannada district. It has also been asked to construct new ones, if needed.

He was addressing presspersons after reviewing the functioning of the departments of Public Works and Energy in Mangalore on Thursday.

National Highway nos. 48, 17 and 13 - totalling 176.65 km — pass through Dakshina Kannada district.

Stating that some of the bridges on National Highways need repairs, he said 25 bridges on NH 17 were constructed 50 years ago.

Tender has been called for filling potholes of some major district roads (MDRs) and State Highways (SHs) in the district. The district has 692 km of MDRs and 526 km of SHs.

Four stretches of roads - Subrahmanya-NH48, Dharmasthala-NH48, Dharmasthala-Belthangady, and Belthangady-Kollur - will be upgraded soon. Work on upgrading other stretches of roads in the district will be taken up on a priority basis, he said.
