Strategy LG bid to push mobile handsets Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 13 LG Electronics India, after sponsoring the ICC Champions Trophy, cricket clinics and camps, has now introduced a cricket game on its latest mobile phone set. Mr Girish V. Rao, Head - Sales, LG Electronics, said that the colour GSM mobile sets priced at Rs 12,000 are being rolled out across the country. Market surveys had proved that people change their mobile phones every 14 months and it was necessary to bring out new products. With gaming catching on, and cricket such a passion in the country, the company was introducing it on the mobile sets, he said. The company is spending Rs 50 crore on cricket promotion by setting up cricket clinics and camps at 10 centres all over the country, Mr Rao said. The company's commitment to cricket was being taken further with these clinics and camps to tap talent at the grassroots level. These centres will be at Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Bhopal, Pune and Kolkata. Mr Rao was talking to reporters at a road show here today to showcase the ICC Champions Trophy. This road show will cover all the major towns in India. LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd, the wholly owned subsidiary of LG Electronics, South Korea, has a portfolio of colour television, washing machines, air conditioners, microwave ovens, refrigerators, PCs, vacuum cleaners and GSM mobile phones. The company is aiming for a turnover of Rs 7,000 crore in 2004.
