Shipping Operations at CCTL back to normal Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 13 OPERATIONS at the Chennai Container Terminal have been restored to normal and container congestion cleared following a three-year wage settlement between the management and the staff, according to a press release from the Chennai Container Terminal Ltd (CCTL). The wage settlement, which takes effect from May 1 between the company and its non-management staff, provides for an immediate salary increase of over 42 per cent. It includes an incentive scheme based on individual employee performance, productivity and discipline. The staff has been on regular work since July 19, when the agreement was reached, and the backlog has been cleared. On August 2, a vessel was berthed immediately upon arrival and since Tuesday, the CCTL berths have been awaiting vessels. CCTL has taken steps to optimise yard stacking and has also waived charges due to strike. ICD containers storage and export container shutout charges for about 1,650 containers have been waived. Port users can get the details of the waivers and procedures from CCTL's finance manager, the release said.
