Bell Ceramics to expand capacity, product range

Chennai , Aug. 13

BELL Ceramics Ltd, the Gujarat-based maker of ceramic tiles, is expanding its production capacity and product range.

The company's Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), Mr A.N. Rangaswamy, told reporters here on Thursday that Bell Ceramics is expanding its capacity at both its production facilities at a cost of Rs 43 crore.

It recently doubled production capacity to 6-lakh sq. m a month at its Karnataka plant, and will expand its Gujarat plant to 5-lakh sq. m a month by the year-end.

It is also strengthening its marketing network.

It has adopted computerised processes to manage its inventories and supplies to ensure prompt delivery of even the smallest orders, he said.

New designs are also in the pipeline. Bell Ceramics is looking to the textile industry and other design-based industries for inspiration, he said.

The company has tied up with overseas manufacturers who will supply high gloss and vitrified tiles.

Bathroom tiles with complementary wall and floor designs - coordinated tile - will be coming from Italy and Spain, high gloss porcelain tiles from China and vitrified tiles from Sri Lanka, he said.

Bell Ceramics has also introduced abrasion-resistant, non-skid floor tiles that are ideal for high traffic areas at home and office.

These plans are expected to help the company realise its `Vision 2008,' which envisages its turnover to grow to Rs 450 crore in 2008 from Rs 140 crore in 2003-04, he said.
