GTB depositors

The Reserve Bank of India should be congratulated for the businesslike manner in which it has solved the problem of the depositors of the Global Trust Bank.

The decision to ask the Oriental Bank of Commerce to take over GTB and the prompt resumption of operations were all done without much loss of time. As far as one can recall, never before has a banking crisis been solved so soon to the satisfaction of everyone.

The employees of the erstwhile GTB should not gripe about the proposal to freeze their basic pay for another three years.
