New Delhi , Aug. 16

INDIAN Airlines (IA) has ruled out any immediate hike in airfares despite an increase in fuel costs. However, fares could go up in a few months if the fuel prices continue on an uptrend, the Chairman, Mr Sunil Arora, said here on Monday.

"The price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) reached a four-year high in August at Rs 27,000 per kilolitre, but we would like to wait and watch for sometime (for increasing fares)," Mr Arora said.

Admitting that high ATF prices was a "worrying scenario," he said fuel prices would also be crucial for IA's financial position this fiscal.

Meanwhile, IA and American Express on Monday launched a co-branded card with no pre-set spending limit. Called the Green Card, it would offer 15 per cent savings on all economy-class fares on flights aboard IA and its subsidiary, Alliance Air (AA). Cardholders can also avail themselves of 10 per cent savings on all business-class fares and five per cent savings on apex and super-apex fares.

The globally valid card is targeted at the rapidly emerging segment of young, successful and affluent people who travel frequently. "The initiative is a part of our efforts to provide value addition to customers," Mr Arora said.

Those earning Rs 3 lakh annually can apply and the fee is Rs 3,750.
