IN the current financial year, the Kerala circle of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will focus on offering its fixed line customers a range of broadband services such as high-speed Internet access, interactive gaming, video-on-demand and video-cable TV, said Mr S. A. Thomas, Chief General Manager, Kerala Telecom Circle, BSNL.

Addressing a press conference in the city on Tuesday, he said that the company is looking to extend its answering machine service to landlines, short messaging service (SMS) to landlines and `account less' Internet service to more cities in Kerala in the current financial year.

The company also plans to upgrade its mobile phone network in the State to a general packet radio service (GPRS) network, Mr Thomas said. This will enable the company to offer its mobile phone customers services such as high-speed Internet access and multimedia messaging services, he said.

The company is currently expanding the capacity of its mobile phone network from 3.26 lakh lines to 7.46 lakh lines, said Mr Thomas. It has 4.7 lakh mobile connections in the State, and expects to add another 1.5 lakh connections by November this year. It is also expanding the coverage of its mobile phone network.
