Kisan Credit Card scheme to be enlarged

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme, which has been introduced as a credit delivery mechanism for crop loans, is now being enlarged to include term loans for agriculture and allied activities, including a reasonable component to meet consumption needs, according to Mr J.R. Sarangal, Chief General Manager of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard), Andhra Pradesh Regional Office.

In a release here on Tuesday, Mr Sarangal stated that the KCC scheme would replace traditional crop loan system and was intended to function as a single window mechanism to meet the credit needs of the farmers.

The provision of consumption loan assumed importance as small and marginal farmers were forced to access credit from informal credit system at high interest rates to meet their needs resulting in their indebtedness. This also impaired their repaying capacity affecting recovery of loans extended by banks.
