Call for exclusive SSI policy

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Aug. 18

THE Tiruchi District Tiny and Small Industries Association has pleaded for tabling the policy for small-scale industries by the Central Government during the current session of Parliament.

In a resolution adopted at its annual general body meeting held at Tiruchi recently, the association has stressed that the Government should come forward with such a policy with immediate effect and revise the same once in three years.

By another resolution, the association has pointed out that the existing labour welfare acts are stringent and beyond the capacity of the sector to adopt them. A separate set of laws exclusively for the sector should be framed, it has demanded.

The meeting further demanded that the shortcomings in the implementation of the credit guarantee scheme, introduced by the Small Industries Development Bank of India should be removed and an office must be set up to monitor the implementation of the scheme. Further, banks should not demand collateral security from the sector for loans that are less than Rs 25 lakh as per the credit policy announced by the Reserve Bank India, the association has urged.
