Plea for more Cauvery water

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Nagapattinam district farmers have urged the Government to increase the quantity of water released in the Cauvery and Vennar rivers and desist from introducing the turn system until the waters reached the tail-end areas.

The present release of 3,700 cusecs each of water in Cauvery and Vennar would take at least a week's time to reach the tail-end area, they say.

The Agriculture department has adequate quantity of paddy seeds of CO-43, ADT-39 and ASD -20 and the farmers have been advised to raise the samba before September, the sources said.
