Essilor SRF looks to acquisitions for growth

Our Bureau

Chennai , Aug. 18

THE Bangalore-based Essilor SRF Optics Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Essilor International S.A and SRF Ltd, is looking at growth in India by acquiring and franchising processing laboratories.

Mr B. Jayanth, Managing Director, Essilor SRF Optics Pvt Ltd, said Essilor has 19 labs in India, including some run by franchisees. The company, which started operations in 1998, deals with a range of products, including scratch resistant, anti reflection, progressive photo chromic and high index lenses.

Essilor will soon launch its Varilux progressive lenses, which are customised to the head and eye movement of the individual, Mr Jayanth said. The price for this product is yet to be decided, he said. The price of other Varilux models varies from Rs 3,000 to Rs 8,000, he said.

Mr Jayanth said that Essilor was the inventor of the progressive lenses, which are designed especially for presbyopes — people who have difficulty reading once they reach the age of 40.

K. Srikkanth, former test cricketer, was signed on Wednesday as the brand ambassador for Varilux.
