Cinema AP Film Chamber opposes revised norms for promos K.V. Kurmanath
Hyderabad , Aug. 18 FILMMAKERS, beware! If you think that you can pep up promos with stuff not cleared by the censors and get away with it, you are mistaken. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has decided to get tough with increasing number of violations by filmmakers with regard to the promos. The CBFC threatened to deny certification to such films that went on air with unchecked promos. In a letter to the AP Film Chamber of Commerce (APFCC), the CBFC has asked the filmmakers to get their promos and songs cleared by the authority before telecast. The chamber, however, has decided to oppose the decision. "It is ridiculous. Why single out only film promos while a major portion of content is being allowed to go on air without checking," Mr C. Kalyan, Honorary Secretary of APFCC, told Business Line. The chamber wrote a letter to all its members informing them about the operational parts of the notice. "We will approach the Government on this," he said. "This move will result in delay of releasing promos as we use video feeds for channels for promoting our films. It will really hurt the industry," a top producer said, reacting to the notice. The CBFC, in its letter, observed that certain uncertified promos/songs of films were being shown in different channels. "Sometimes even the visuals deleted from certain films are shown," it said. Citing the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Rules, the letter pointed out that only those programmes certified `U' should be shown. It wanted the filmmakers to keep in mind that they needed to get their promos or songs cleared just as they do in case of trailers. "It has been decided that no such film will be certified which shows the promos or songs without any certificate," the letter said. The Board also wanted the filmmakers to submit an affidavit (on a Rs 20 stamp paper) stating that they had not telecast any uncertified promos in the channels. Not only that, they should submit that they won't violate the norms in the future as well. In the letter to its members, the APFCC said that the CBFC gave time till August 23. "This is to give sufficient time to producers to comply with the notice," the letter said.
