MRS Gayathri Rathore, along with several sports lovers may have missed viewing her husband, Mr Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, win the first-ever silver medal at the Olympic Games, but here's some good news. The multi-system operators, who had called for a strike protesting against the service tax, have decided to resume cable service to households.
According to Mr Jawahar Goel, Head, Siticable, "We have decided to resume cable services as we want Indians to watch Olympics. We do not want to come between the Games and sports-lovers." Yesterday's blackout had deprived viewers of the Games in a large part of the Capital.
Another group of independent cable operators met the Revenue Secretary, Ms Vineeta Rai, on Wednesday. "We have informed the Government that we do not have any objection to pay service tax. But the Finance Ministry must help the cable industry raise funds from the banking sector as well," said Ms Roop Sharma, President, Cable Operators' Federation of India (Cofi).
