Medical clinics

This is with reference to the editorial "Regulating medical clinics" (Business Line, August 19). The move to regulate clinical establishments is welcome, especially when medical tourism is becoming big business.

The difficulties in creating a framework are well known. A regulation brought by the Tamil Nadu Government to regulate private hospitals and check quacks failed.

In fact, now there is no talk of the "health for all" programme. Because of the escalating cost of medical treatment and non-availability of facilities, the common man is facing enormous difficulties. The Government should build more hospitals and implement a comprehensive policy to give quality healthcare to all citizens.
