Ministry plans to move Cabinet for extending purchase scheme

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 19

THE Ministry of Heavy Industries is planning to move the Cabinet for extending the purchase preference scheme for public sector units for two years with retrospective effect, according to the Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Mr Santosh Mohan Dev.

The purchase preference scheme gives PSUs the first right to supply equipment and projects to other PSUs.

The earlier scheme introduced in March 2002 had expired in March 2004.

"We are going to extend the scheme for the next two years. The Ministry will move a proposal for the consideration of the Cabinet soon," the Minister said here on Thursday.

Justifying the ground for the preferential scheme, under which a PSU gets a chance to match the lowest bidder in case the difference between the two bids are within a 10 per cent limit for projects and equipment supply to other PSUs and Government departments, Mr Dev said it was needed to provide a level-playing field for PSUs.
