(Top) `Atham Pookalam' is proving to be a costly affair as arrival of flowers from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has shrunk this year. Flowers are sold at Rs 150 per kg against last year's Rs 60-80 a kg.

(Above) Subramaniam, a Thrissur-based artisan who creates Thanjavur Thalayatti Bommai,' is in Thiruvananthapuram with his ware. Priced at Rs 30 apiece, the paper pulp figurines yield a neat profit of Rs 15 to Subramanian who posts daily sales of Rs 500 to Rs 1000.
