Software Scicom plans second facility in Noida Moumita Bakshi
New Delhi , Aug. 22 SCICOM Infotech, a software company focused on scientific and technical application solutions, plans to set up a new development centre in Noida next year with a capacity to house 200-250 professionals. The centre will be set up at an estimated investment of about $ 3 million. "We are finding that many projects involve not just development of software but integration of software which drives equipments and devices," Dr Indranil Chakravarty, Managing Director of Scicom Infotech, told Business Line. He said the estimated investment for the facility would be about $ 3 million, which would be supported partly through a new round of funding and internal accruals. "We plan to raise $ 2 million-$ 3 million in the second round of funding sometime next year. The company had gone for the first round of funding three years back when it raised about Rs 1.5 crore from Gujarat Venture Finance Ltd (GVFL)," he said. Elaborating on the concept of the proposed facility, Dr Chakravarty said, "While providing product development services to some clients, we access physical machines remotely, but in many cases like data acquisition for oil, there is a requirement of hardware to test the software." "In many cases this work cannot be done remotely. The tool needs to sit near software system to test or validate the software and at times even for development of software," he pointed out. Scicom Infotech currently has development centres in Noida and Houston. "Some projects are difficult to do completely offshore due to integration of software and hardware. We have about 37 professionals in the US doing integration, testing, delivery and some proprietary development work," he pointed out.
