Poultry products movement exempted: NECC

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , Aug. 23

THE striking truck operators have exempted the poultry products from strike and have allowed the movement of eggs, chickens and the poultry feed.

A communication to this effect has been received from the All-India Transport Congress (AITC) and the exemption has been given on humanitarian consideration.

According to Dr P. Selvaraj, Zonal Chairman of the National Egg Coordination Committee, Namakkal, the AITC's gesture is in response to a request from Ms Anuradha Desai, Chairperson of NECC, who had earlier appealed to the striking truck operations to permit the trucks carrying the poultry products.

In the meantime, the movement of eggs and live chickens from various production centres in Tamil Nadu remained normal.

The farm-gate prices of shell egg and live-bird continue to remain stable this week. The NECC's week price fixation committee in the State has chosen to maintain the wholesale egg rate at Rs 1.40 a piece, the same as previous week. As for the broiler selling price, the State Broiler Coordination Committee has announced an increase in the selling price by Rs 2 from previous week's Rs 27 thereby taking per kg broiler price to Rs 29 this week.
