Standards & Benchmarks Sub-standard milk detected Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Only three of the 15 brands tested at the milk analysis station at the Supplyco Onam Metro Fair have measured up to the required standards, according to a spokesman of the Department of Dairy Development. Almost 80 per cent of the samples representing 12 popular brands marketed by various milk marketing organisations have failed to pass muster, the spokesman added. Those came up trumps in the test were two toned milk samples marketed by `Ksheera' and one sample of `A-One' milk. The rest were found to be of sub-standard quality either because they contained fat and SNF in excess quantity or had returned higher than normal levels in terms of acidity. One other sample of vendor milk was found to contain traces of alkali.
