Airlines SriLankan to add 11 more flights soon Our Bureau
Mumbai , Aug. 23 SRILANKAN Airlines will add a further 11 flights to India from October 31, taking to 77 the total number of its flights to the country. According to an official statement, with this nine of the airline's 10 Indian destinations would have daily or more frequent flights, including 15 flights per week from Chennai and 11 from Thiruvananthapuram. "Our target is to provide a web of services around India, which will allow rapid connections to both Indians and foreign visitors to many parts of the country," said Mr G.T. Jeyaseelan, Head of Commercial at SriLankan Airlines. "We embarked on a strategy last year to provide daily frequencies to as many of our existing destinations as possible, and we have achieved that in respect of India." Kozhikode became the airline's 10th destination in India in July. SriLankan now plans to fly to Ahmedabad and several other cities. The largest increase in the number of flights will be to Thiruvananthapuram, up from seven to 11, including twice daily on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday. Hyderabad and Kozhikode follow, with the number of services increasing from four up to seven in case of the former and up from six to seven in the latter. The airline currently operates daily services to New Delhi, Mumbai, Tiruchi, and Bangalore. According to the statement, flights to the Buddhist pilgrimage destination, Bodh Gaya, which currently operate via New Delhi, will become a twice-weekly direct Colombo-Bodh Gaya-Colombo service. These flights will be on Wednesday and Sunday.
