INDIA is set to enter into a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC).

The first-ever such accord with the Arab world is to be inked during the three-day official visit of the Foreign Minister of Kuwait, Dr Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, which begins on Tuesday.

The FTA with the GCC, of which Kuwait is the Chairman, is significant as it is expected to broadbase economic co-operation with the entire Arab world in industry and trade.

According to an official statement, Dr Al-Sabah's visit will mark a new beginning not only for Indo-Kuwaiti relations but for Indo-Arab ties as well.

Dr Al-Sabah is slated to meet his Indian counterpart and discuss the topics of mutual co-operation. He is also expected to meet top Indian officials and sign many co-operation treaties encompassing various issues for better ties between the two countries.
