Priority would also be given to maintain satisfactory power supply to rural consumers under the plan. At present, power supply is for 7 hours. This was stated by Ms Rachel Chatterjee, Chairperson & Managing Director of AP Transco, at a meeting on Tuesday to review the power supply position to the agriculture sector. The action plan would focus on constituting special teams to monitor the adherence to the 8-hour schedule to the agriculture sector; initiating special measures to prevent low voltage; implementing the time-bound programme of high voltage distribution system (HVDS) vigorously to all agri pumpsets in the State in a phased manner and formation of rural cells to expedite the ongoing transmission and distribution works in rural areas with funds to the tune of Rs 1,234 crore form Rural Electrification Corporation for the current fiscal. The meeting was attended by the chiefs of DisComs and officials of AP Transco. To keep up the promise of providing additional annual subsidy of about Rs 437 crore, apart from the annual subsidy of over Rs 1,300 crore, the State Government has been releasing monthly instalments towards free electricity schemes one day in advance, the AP Transco release claimed. The State Government has already waived the electricity arrears of farmers to the tune of more than Rs 1,200 crore and would compensate the utilities by paying this amount to provide relief to the agriculture consumers.
