Defence scientist awarded

HYDERABAD: Dr E. Bhagiratha Rao, a noted defence scientist, has been selected for the VASVIK (Vivadhalaxi Audyogik Samshodhan Vikas Kendra) award for his research and contributions in the field of electrical and electronic sciences and technologies.

The award carrying a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a citation would be presented to Dr Rao on September 18 at Mumbai by Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, while Lord Navnit Dholakia of Waltham Brooks, UK, will be the guest of honour.

He has been instrumental in building the Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun, into one of the best electronic laboratories in the DRDO and was Director of the Hyderabad-based DLRL and the Institute of Armament Studies, Pune.
