Karnataka to unveil IT hardware policy

Our Bureau

Chennai , Aug. 25

KARNATAKA will announce its information technology hardware policy at Bangalore IT.com 2004, the State's annual information, communication and technology event to be held in Bangalore in the first week of November.

The State Government also plans a hardware technology park in Bangalore, for which land has been allotted. The park would include a telecom cluster, Mr M.K. Shankaralinge Gowda, Karnataka's IT Secretary, told newspersons.

According to Mr Gowda, for the year ending March 31, 2004, the State had 36 hardware IT companies compared with 31 the previous year, and they contributed revenues of Rs 1,700 crore (Rs 1,403 crore). This is, however, a miniscule figure compared to the State's overall IT exports of Rs 18,100 crore (software contributes a major chunk of the total revenues).
