Tea Good demand props up Kochi tea prices Our Bureau
Kochi , Aug. 27 A GOOD general demand resulted in the spurting of prices of almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Of the quantity of 984,000 kg on offer in the dust category, high priced CTC's steady to occasionally dearer by a rupee. All others were dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2 and sometimes more. Orthodox was dearer. The best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 55-75, medium CTC realised Rs 48-54 and poorer type were quoted Rs 42-48. Highgrown BOPD realised Rs 105, while medium BOPD fetched prices between Rs 42-46. Secondaries were quoted at Rs 35-40. The leaf sale also witnessed a good general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,50,000 kg. Orthodox well made good quality brokens and Fannings were steady to firm and sometimes dearer. All others tended to ease. CTC's generally firm to dearer by Re 1 to Rs 2. Exporters including CIS buyers operated with fair strength compared to last week. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded prices between Rs 65-79, medium Orthodox realised Rs 54-70. The best CTC leaf fetched prices between Rs 58-63, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 51-57. In the dust category, Kodanaad BOPD-CL realised the best prices of Rs 105, followed by Pasuparai SFD by Rs 78. In the leaf varieties, Lockhart TGFOP fetched the best prices of Rs 96, followed by Chamraj OP by Rs 94.
