Marriott, Kuoni Academy tie up for tourism diplomas

MARRIOTT International and Kuoni Academy of Travel have announced a partnership for incorporating Marriott's Hotel Excellence programme into Kuoni's academic curriculum.

In a bid to recognise talent among travel professionals, Marriott International said it would offer two annual achievement awards.

The JW Marriott Achievement Award will be awarded for all-round excellence in the post-graduate diploma in travel and tourism programme and the JW Marriott Junior Achievement Award will be similarly given to a student passing out of the certificate tourism programme.

The Hotel Excellence Certificate will also be awarded with the 6-month Kuoni airline diploma programme to all participating students who complete the course.

"As part of our commitment towards developing a reservoir of a holistic human resource for the global tourism industry, we have given due importance in training not only in air, sea and surface travel but also in hospitality," a joint press release said quoting Mr Kamal Hingorani, Vice- President & Head, Kuoni Academy of Travel.

"In this era of shrinking commissions, we feel that travel agencies can raise their revenues by increasing the number of hotel bookings made by them. The only way forward now, is to value add to the overall travel experience of the consumer and offer him integrated travel solutions," the release said quoting Ms Sheema Vohra, Director, India & Subcontinent, Global Sales Organisation, Marriott International.
