Software Autodesk India chief upbeat on domestic market potential L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , Aug. 27 "THE domestic market may not be as big as China, but India's potential cannot be ignored," said Mr Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Autodesk India. Appointed recently to head the company's Indian operations, Mr Dhupar, a former Director of Sun Microsystems, told Business Line that Autodesk envisaged a huge opportunity, particularly because of the emphasis being laid on investment in infrastructure. The design and digital content solutions provider established its presence in India a decade ago. Initially it was engaged in marketing its product range. The increasing user base compelled the company to set up a consulting arm. He said that the company was working with trendsetters in various segments and exploring the possibility of spreading its wings into urban and semi-urban centres. "The manufacturing sector has restructured itself in the last 15 years. Though the scales of manufacturing have not swelled as in China, the shopfloor-level technology has scaled up over the years. The spending on IT has increased from just 0.6 per cent to 2-3 per cent now." IDC reports predict a 23 per cent compounded growth in IT spend over the next two years from a level of $6.2 billion in 2003 to touch a high of $11 billion by 2006. Mr Dhupar also said that Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were other potential markets that the company was keen on tapping.
