Hyderabad , Aug. 28

THE Taj Group of Hotels would set up 10 budget hotels in Uttaranchal in two phases in the next three to five years.

In the first phase, the hospitality major would set up four hotels. Work on the first such hotel is expected to begin next month. Rooms are likely to be made available at sub-Rs 1,000 levels.

Mr A.K. Ghosh, Additional Secretary (Tourism) of Uttaranchal Government, told Business Line that these hotels would come up at key destinations in the newly carved out State.

A team led by the Director of Taj's special projects had recently visited the State. "The process of identification of suitable land is under way," Mr Ghosh, who is also the Additional Chief Executive Officer of Uttaranchal Tourism Development Board, said.

The State would soon have Rs 512-crore Eco City at Hempur. The tourism board had signed a memorandum of understanding with a consortium called Ramnagar Eco Park Pvt Ltd on August 24 for the purpose.

The consortium comprises Chescor Capital (UK), Magus Group and Fairwood Consultants.
