Bank merger

The merger of the State Bank of India with the Associated Banks will consolidate the Indian banking industry, enabling it to become "world-class".

Only such consolidation will give banks the muscle, size and scale to become world-class financial organisations.

As the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, rightly said, the banks have to think global and act local.

They also have to seek new markets and new classes of borrowers.
