`Kochuveli must go on stream'

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Union Minister of State for Railways, Mr R. Velu, has said that the Railways would not be able to introduce new trains earlier announced for the State Capital in the Railway Budget nor extend express trains unless the proposed satellite terminal at Kochuveli became operational without further delay.

The Minister, who was here to inspect the passenger amenities at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station, said the station had become "saturated" in terms of the number of trains being handled. The situation was made worse by the sheer lack of space for taking up expansion work of any sort. This had rendered impossible any plans aimed at introducing new trains or extending existing services out of the city, he said.
