Events Fluid race K.K. Mustafah
A cattle race in progress on a paddy filed at Erimayoor in Palakkad district as part of the Onam celebrations. The races are for a distance of 100 metres and the runners are bulls, buffaloes and mixed pairs. The specially fed and trained animals used for racing cost several thousand rupees more than the ones used for ploughing. Enthusiasts do betting on the race animals and their trainers. There is a club, Cattle Race Club of Kerala, in Palakkad with branches in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, to oversee the races.
