Pune , Aug. 31

THE Pravara Rural Education Society of Loni in Ahmednagar has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Adelaide, Australia, for an educational partnership with their engineering colleges in all disciplines.

The MoU was signed by Mr Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil, Trustee, Pravara Rural Education Society, and Mr John Taplin, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) University of Adelaide, Australia. This tie-up would mean that a student enrolled in the Pravara Rural Engineering College could complete the first two years of engineering at Pravara and then complete the remaining course of two years at the Adelaide University.

Pravara Rural Engineering College would be upgrading its infrastructure facilities with an investment of Rs 2.5 crore, MrVikhe Patil said. The tie-up would also allow students, faculty and research exchange programmes.

Mr Vikhe Patil said that it would start the first phase of international information centre, which is coming up at Pravara, where students would have access to detailed information about the course. He noted that the fee structure would be similar to what is being accepted at the University of Pune. However, students opting for completion of last two years at Australia would have to pay as per the fee structure of University of Adelaide, he pointed out.

Mr Taplin said as an initial step, the University of Adelaide would provide financial assistance and special scholarships to deserving students. The scholarships would commence from academic year 2005 and during this year, two students would be awarded with the scholarship. The scholarship would be in the form of reduction in the tuition fees, he said.
